I noticed a super fan in the grandstand. She was festively dressed in red and white, had a huge Canada flag and was always the person to stand up after rider’s each round (particularly the Canadians) and cheer the loudest. I decided I’d like to talk to her and find out how long she had been going to Spruce Meadows. I approached and said, “I love the enthusiasm! You must be a big fan.” “Well, I am,” she said to me. “I’m Tiffany Foster’s mom.”

Read our interview below:

My name is Lynn Foster.

Nice to meet you, I’m so excited to run into you. I’ve been following Tiffany’s career for a long time. How long have you been coming to Spruce Meadows?

Oh, I used to bring Tiffany here when she was a youngster, a young teenager. I’ve got a picture of her and her sister that was taken…twenty three years ago I think it is now.

Wow. Did you ever think in your mind you would be here, this many years later, and she’s a top international rider?

No, but she did. Yeah, I’ve got a letter that she wrote saying that one day, she was going to be riding at Spruce Meadows and going to the Olympics – that was her dream.

That was her dream. And she did both.

Yeah, she did. And she worked very hard and didn’t waver.

What do you think made her the horsewoman she is today?

A lot of people supporting her. Opportunities that just happened to be there. But I’d say mostly, it’s her focus, she loved horses, and she just never ever changed.

Yes, I’ve heard that about Tiffany, that she still loves the horses as much as she always did. And finally, can you tell me about one favourite or memorable moment here at Spruce Meadows?

I think it was one when I bought this thing (referring to the Go Canada Go sign she was holding) for the 2011 Nations Cup – the first time she was ever in a Nation’s Cup and she did so well. That’s still a great memory.
